Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes, accounting for around 85–90% of all cases in Australia. It occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin or doesn't produce enough insulin to maintain normal blood glucose levels.

What Causes Type 2 Diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes develops over time and is influenced by a combination of genetic and lifestyle factors, including excess weight, physical inactivity, and poor diet. It can affect people of any age, though it is more common in adults over 45.

Symptoms

Many people with type 2 diabetes have no symptoms initially. When symptoms do occur, they may include increased thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, blurred vision, and slow-healing wounds.

Management

Type 2 diabetes is managed through a combination of healthy eating, regular physical activity, blood glucose monitoring, and medications where needed. Some people also require insulin therapy as the condition progresses.
