Diabetes in Dogs and Cats
Diabetes in Dogs and Cats

Just like humans, our beloved pets can develop diabetes — and managing it can feel overwhelming for families. Angie Llewellyn brings her extensive experience as a Credentialled Diabetes Educator to help pet owners understand and confidently manage their pet's diabetes, working alongside your veterinarian to provide the best possible care.
What is Diabetes in Pets?
Diabetes mellitus in dogs and cats occurs when the body cannot produce enough insulin or cannot use it effectively, resulting in high blood glucose levels. Without proper management, diabetes can seriously affect your pet's quality of life. The good news is that with the right education and support, pets living with diabetes can live happy, healthy lives.
Common signs of diabetes in pets include:
- Increased thirst and urination
- Weight loss despite a good appetite
- Lethargy or reduced activity
- Cloudy eyes (particularly in dogs)
- Recurring infections
