Diabetes and Pregnancy

Managing diabetes during pregnancy requires careful planning and close support. The primary goal is to ensure optimal blood glucose control throughout pregnancy to deliver a healthy baby.

If you have type 1 or type 2 diabetes and are planning to conceive, pre-pregnancy planning with optimal diabetes management is strongly recommended before conception. Good blood glucose control before and during pregnancy significantly reduces the risk of complications for both mother and baby.

As a Credentialled Diabetes Educator, I provide personalised telehealth support for women with pre-existing diabetes who are pregnant or planning a pregnancy. I can help you with:

  • Understanding how pregnancy affects your blood glucose levels
  • Insulin adjustments during pregnancy
  • Blood glucose monitoring and targets
  • Nutrition and carbohydrate management
  • Using insulin pumps and CGM during pregnancy
  • Preparing for birth and the postnatal period

Medicare rebates

You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate for consultations with a Credentialled Diabetes Educator. Ask your GP or obstetrician about a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan or Team Care Arrangement, which can provide rebates for up to five allied health visits per calendar year.
